Legend has it that Bern was named after its founder Duke Berthold V of Zahringen named the city after the first animal he came across: a bear (Bar in German). Bern is the fifth most populous city in Switzerland, and also the capital. It is well known for the Old Medieval Town and also the Bernese Alps, just south of the city. The Bernese Alps is also where the super cute Bernese Mountain dog is from!

Heidi lives in a small village just outside of Bern with her two brothers and uncle. She spends her days at school, hanging out with friends, and writing creative stories in her diary. She is extremely outgoing, and enjoys taking her Bernese Mountain dog out on long walks. After graduation, she plans on moving to the big city and starting a new life there.
