Even after the physical Darkness that held him together was disbanded, Dark Steve lived on in the minds of the Steves who lived after the cycle was renewed. Especially in the mind of Sabre, who spoke to Origin Steve to remake him for a short time. In this time, Dark and Sabre lived secluded from the timeline, exploring the mirror world made for them until Dark Steve was to return to the timeline, corrupted by the darkness that he was reborn into. (More of a headcanon thing)
