Nimrod

The man who ordered the Tower of Babel's construction, Nimrod was a mighty hunter king, and the son of Cush. However, when the Tower of Babel was still in the midst of construction, God and His angels changed everyone's languages in order to prevent humanity from barging into Heaven.

In the Divine Comedy, Nimrod is depicted as a giant, chained outside the last circle of Hell (Treachery). When Dante and Virgil approach him, Nimrod bellows out "Raphl mai amcche zab almi", a seemingly nonsense phrase that probably relates to his involvement with the Tower of Babel.

Nowadays, because of Loony Tunes, Nimrod was used as an ironic comparison to Elmer Fudd, and because of this, the modern term "nimrod" has come to mean an idiot.
