I got up and patted the dogs tic covered head. He wagged his tail slowly and stuck out his tongue. I entered the house again. ''There you are sugarcube! I was just about to go out and look for you.'' Jem bellowed. I was glad she hadn't. ''What happened to you, A?'' my dad asked jokingly, shaking his head. ''Gee, I didnt expect a welcome party.'' I replied with a frown. My dad just laughed.
''Well, I had to unpack anyway. How about you and your aunt sit on the porch swing and talk. You know, get to know each other. And you can even meet Bruno. Itll be great. Bonding time!'' He gave me an encouraging smile. My mom followed him out the door.
How I was annoyed by her accent and I called her ''Jem'' or ''Ms. Jem'' instead of ''Auntie'', I fed her dog the wrong dog food and he was sick so she had to take him miles away to the nearest vet Then I got control of myself. Whos to say she even had friends? And who cares what they think? I often overthought things, my parents called it my greatest flaw. I guess it kind of was.

She would tell all her country friends that I was a loser and how I didnt want to use a hole as a toilet and I fell in a mud puddle and got all dirty, and how I wouldnt eat her cooking and wore boring crop tops and shorts and bandanas, how I woke up in the night to a coyote howling and accidently woke her up by running to my parents from fear.

I looked. And double checked. And triple checked, but I was sure there was a mistake. All that was there was a hole in the ground. No way was I going in there. Discouraged, I started turning around to go back inside. Just before I got to the porch, I slipped down the stairs and fell into a mud puddle. I was drenched. I was about to cry, but then I thought about how ''Auntie Jem'' would think of me.

She chuckled. ''Call me Auntie Jem, and its right outside, past the chicken coop behind the house.'' ''Um. Ok. Thanks.'' I quickly left the house and went behind the house. I looked in the chicken coop. There wasnt any birds inside, but I could see eggs, so I assumed they were wandering around. I went back to focussing on my task.
