Tears *****ed my eyes, but I held them back. Demigods didn't cry. I took in deep, sharp breaths and tried not to concentrate on the pain. I gritted my teeth and looked ahead. Trees blocked the path. "How are we going to get past those?"I grumbled. Dusk's eyes lit up, and said,"Hang on!" She ran forward, clutching my arm tightly, and vaulted over the roots. They hissed angrily, but they couldn't reach us. "Oh my GODS!"I shrieked,but not at Dusk…at the thing in our path...

The pain was unbearable. I fell onto the cobblestone path with a sickening crunch, then sat up, held my foot, and winced. "Dusk-I can't…"I moan, and my head lolled back. Dusk rushed to help me up. She put her arm around my shoulder, and we limped onward.

"Dusk-this path-"I gasped. "I know, I know,"Dusk said, interrupting me. "It feels evil. But I KNOW we have to follow it."Her midnight blue eyes sparkled. "My foot!"I groaned. "I know what you feel like,"she sighed, her twilight-colored hair tangled with sweat and dried blood. "That cut on my cheek is bleeding again."

"Ow,"I grumbled as we walked along the dirty, mossy cobblestone path we had found in tis strange, hellish forest. Dusk had insisted on following it, but I had a bad feeling about it. A few days ago, one of the living roots from the black and red trees had tried to kill me, but the wound on my foot had nearly healed. Now it was bleeding worse than it had been before.
