The year is 1315
Constance is the eldest daughter of a free peasant family working on manorial land in England.
This year the rain has been never ending. the earth is too wet for crops, cattle fall sick and die, and most of what can be stored is ruined by rain.
Her parents are overladen scrounging up anything they can to pay their lord their owed rent.
There is never enough to eat.
In her free hours Constance ventures into the woods to forage for wild vegetables, herbs, and even tree bark so her family might eat.
