the creature

We were walking through the woods and I was wondering why the creature was walking backwards, it was freaking me out actually. I spoke up asking "hey... prefer walking backwards or something?" they suddenly stopped and turned around, which confused me further. The creature proceeded to look around confused, then looking like and idea had clicked into place, then looked around again. At this point I couldn't tell if they were looking up, down, left or right but then they stopped. Leaned down and picked up a small pink and yellow flower, at this point was thoroughly confused and uptight not knowing what the creature was gonna do next. They then stood up and put the flower up to their head and placed it gently as small black strings slowly oozed forward, latching onto the flower and snugly fitting it into the creatures skin(?). I was fascinated and disgust all at the same time as I said "wow.." and proceeded to stare as the creature, and their flower, stared back. They closed their eyes, in what I think was a smile, then turned around and walked on.
