A long time ago, there was a simpler version of this creature that went extinct. A fossil was found and scientists worked on reviving the creature. Unfortunately this went horribly wrong as hundreds of parasites and viruses got into its embryo with led this adaptive creature to evolve immunities and break free of containment and go rouge. This indirectly led to the massive ECHOHOST outbreak today.
