Duwende

Duwende are small, supernatural entities found in Filipino folklore, often likened to goblins. They are said to inhabit mounds (punso), trees, or secluded areas within homes. Their nature can be either kind or playful, influenced by how they are treated by humans. Well-treated duwende are known to bring good fortune and blessings, while those who feel slighted may result in illness, accidents, or bad luck. To show respect when passing areas where duwende might reside, Filipinos traditionally say “tabi-tabi po,” acknowledging the unseen spirits that coexist within the natural environment.
