Spiderpaw ran onto the Thunderpath, chasing a butterfly.

Shrewpaw gasped as he saw a monster coming straight towards his brother.

The shiny monster stormed by with a loud thump.
Grief struck Shrewpaw's heart with more pain then a badger bite.

"SPIDERPAW!!" Dustpelt yowled, racing towards the lifeless black tom.
Ashfur and Squirrelflight were behind the brown tom. The ginger she-cat hid her face into Ashfur's neck fur, refusing to see dead Spiderpaw.

"It'll be okay," Ashfur soothed his mate.

"Hey! Get that tick by my tail!" Longtail snapped at Shrewpaw. The apprentice nodded quietly and took the tick out easily.

When Shrewpaw finished his apprentice work, he decided to visit the nursery.
Ferncloud, his mother, was there when the other queens need help.

"Hello, Shrewpaw," meowed a light brown tabby queen, her amber eyes bright.

"Hi, Leafpool," Shrewpaw mewed.

The young queen had only moved into the nursery a halfmoon ago, and no cat has heard anything about the father of the unborn kits.

"Firestar! There's a weird she-cat in camp!"

Shrewpaw rushed out of the nursery to see a fluffy cream she-cat with three kits.
