Chapter 3: Wheelchair Girl

"Mom, can I take Ella on a walk?" I asked.
"Sure, just be careful."
"What? Why?" I said, then groaned. "Oh, not this again, I'll be fine!"
"If you say so..."
I grabbed Ella's leash and called her name. I heard a padding of paws as Ella approached me. She put her paws on the armrest of my wheelchair and licked my face. I laughed. As a homeschooled student, I didn't really have any friends. Only Ella.
I had some difficulty opening the door, but I managed it. Soon, we were outside. With the leash in one hand, I carefully wheeled down the ramp that my mom had built, just for me. We slowly made our way to the park, Ella trotting happily next to me. When we adopted her, she was a energetic puppy, but after adapting to my disabilities - I hate to say the word, but it's true - she learned to control her energy.
"Hey, wheelchair girl!" I shut my eyes tight. Bill Walker was always teasing me about the fact that I was on a wheelchair.
"Need me to hold that leash?" Bill jeered. I wheeled around to face him.
"You be quiet, Bill Walker! YOU weren't ever in a car accident, and YOU don't know how it feels to know that you can never walk again!"
