Chapter 2: Invisible
Naomi

I watched Ellarie Brunner hopefully as she slid into the seat next to me. Maybe this year would be different. Maybe Ellarie would be the one to notice me.
But no. She just ignored me. Didn't even look my way. I sighed and buried my head in my arms. I wondered just how many people I've done this to, looking at them hopefully, wishing they'd notice me.
I didn't even pay attention to what Miss Iris was saying.
The bell rang. There was a stampede for the door. As I made my way there, someone bumped into me.
"Sorry, Naomi!" A boy apologized. I stopped dead in my tracks. He looked confused. "Did I do something wrong?"
"Y-you-" I stammered. "You said my name!"
"Uh, yeah?" The boy said.
"Nobody says my name," I said. "Nobody notices me. It's like I'm invisible."
"Oh...I'm sorry to hear that."
"I mean, at least you noticed me." I smiled.
"Yeah! I gotta go...see you later, Naomi!" The boy smiled and left. I looked down at the floor. I didn't even ask for his name!
"Oh, and by the way, your hair looks really cool. I mean the blue and the ombre." The boy was back.
"Thank you," I said. "What's your name?"
"Alan," he responded. "Alan Parkerson."
