Chapter 1: Nearly Late
Ellarie

The late bell rang, and I hurried down the hallway.
"Ellarie?" The teacher in the room I entered called. "Is Ellarie Brunner here?"
"Sorry, miss," I apologized.
"It's alright, Ellarie, I won't make you go get a tardy slip from the office," She told me kindly. "But please be on time next time." I nodded and took a seat at a desk in the back row. A boy with blond hair and gray-green eyes was sitting next to me. He looked at me, and I looked away.
"Abigail Zackerman?" The teacher called.
"Here!" A short girl with long brown hair who was sitting in the first row said.
"Alright," The teacher said, smiling. "Hello everyone. My name is-"
"Wait!" A voice came from outside the classroom. A boy with mud-stained trousers, a t-shirt with a splotch of milk on it, and a cap with the national baseball team logo on it stepped into the classroom. "Ma'am, don't count me tardy," He said.
"I already did roll call," The teacher said, annoyed. "Go and get a tardy slip from the office." The boy groaned and left the classroom.
"Right," The teacher turned back to us and smiled. "My name is Miss Iris, and I'll be your homeroom teacher this year!"
