Steampunk or steampunk (from steampunk: steam for “steam” and punk for “punk”) is a science fiction movement involving technology and arts and crafts inspired by 19th-century technology and fiction, primarily steam engines. Emerging initially in the 1980s as a literary movement in opposition to cyberpunk, it has gradually grown into an art style, cultural movement, and subculture. It is considered the best-known derivative of cyberpunk.
