The sky was gloomily overcast with dark clouds. Thunder struck in the distance, and every bird was silent.
Skylark was trotting along the edge of Swanlake, which looked ominously dark.
Shrewberry was leading a patrol along with Skylark, Rabbitpaw and Rockpaw. They had been sent to investigate a fox scent that Blacknose had detected while hunting yesterday.
Skylark could see Rabbitpaw glancing nervously at the sky as it shrouded SwanClan territory in shadow. Shrewberry paused to taste the air, and at that moment rain began to pour down. Thunder roared, lightning flashed, and the cats' pelts were sodden and plastered to their bodies within moments.
Skylark held in a groan of annoyance, "Shrewberry, maybe we should head back. We won't be picking up any trails in this downpour."
Shrewberry shook her head stubbornly, "We'll continue on- We have to be quick before the rain washes the scent away."
Rockpaw and Rabbitpaw glanced at each other anxiously.

"It's too late for Rockpaw," Shrewberry gasped, "He's probably passed out by now."
Rabbitpaw wailed in grief, "We have to go after him! He'll drown."
Skylark coughed up another mouthful of water. The lake was churning and swirling and frothing. "We couldn't get to him even if we tried. He's at the bottom of the lake, Rabbitpaw." Skylark rasped.
Rabbitpaw wailed again.
Skylark glared at Shrewberry, "You want to go back to camp now, mouse-heart?" She snapped.
Shrewberry looked shaken, "Y-yes- I'll lead on-"

Cold water wrapped around her, making her shudder from head to tail tip.
She squinted her eyes open, though it hurt, and spotted them sinking to the bottom of the lake.
She propelled herself downward, fighting the swirling current, towards them.
She grabbed Rabbitpaw's brown scruff in her teeth, her mouth filled with water and she resisted the urge to breathe.
Rockpaw was sinking down, down, down like a stone. Skylark's lungs were screaming for air and she swam rapidly to the surface, finally breaking it and being knocked onto shore by another wave. She let go of Rabbitpaw and spat out his fur, both coughing up water.
"R-Rockpaw!" Rabbitpaw gasped, trying to lunge into the depths again. Skylark yanked him back by his scruff and away from the water.
Shrewberry bounded over.
Skylark sighed and followed the others as they skirted Swanlake, which was now foaming in large waves. She saw a swan take into the air as it was nearly knocked underwater by the current.
She cautiously took a step away from the lake so she was walking a little farther from the treacherous shore.
As they came to the spot Blacknose had reported, the lake only looked more and more foreboding. Suddenly Skylark heard a yelp and glanced on ahead. Rockpaw had disappeared in a sweeping wave.
"Rockpaw!" Rabbitpaw shrieked and scurried to the edge of the water towards where his brother had fallen.
Skylark hurried forward as another wave crashed onto the shore and swept Rabbitpaw away.
Shrewberry was staring in alarm, trying to process this.
Skylark gulped and dived into the water after
