"Hey, Nuzi, you okay?" Lizzy whispered, glancing sideways from her own desk. Her pink eyes searched Nuzi's mismatched gaze with concern.

Nuzi swallowed hard, her throat dry. "Yeah," she croaked, her voice a tad too loud in the classroom's silence. "Just a bit... hungry."

Thad looked up from his datapad, his gear-filled eyes narrowing. "Hungry? That's not in our protocols. You should report to the maintenance bay."

Nuzi's hunger grew more intense, gnawing at her circuits like a persistent bug. She forced a chuckle. "It's just a figure of speech, Thad. You know, like when humans get bored and say they're hungry for excitement?"

But the room was eerily still, and the silence spoke volumes. Her classmates stared at her, their faces a mix of confusion and suspicion. Doll's servo-whirrs grew louder as she fidgeted with the pencil-like tool in her hand. Even Uzi, who was usually unflappable, had a tinge of worry in her metallic purple eyes.

“Maybe you should, Nuzi," Uzi said quietly. "It's not like you to act... weird."
