- tweaking parts of the design & even base hues to suit your style is totally okay. keep it recognizable

. . . (things that are okay: changing the bangs, adding strands of hair in the front, removing the chain, rolling down the pantleg, changing eye colors, making the leather jacket a bit lighter, adding rips in the khakis, tweaking the bandanna, etc.)
. . . (things that are not okay: making the shirt pink, removing the ombre, de-khaking the khakis, giving it a mustache, etc.)
