I have an auto immune disease called Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. Basically my compliment system is always on and working. The compliment system is basically like a woodchipper for viruses and infections of any sort. But when its on, it shreds EVERYTHING in its path. So my kidneys failed because they were absolutely shredded. The surgeon's saw literal ton of scar tissue on my kidneys from the literal beating they took from my immune system.
