When Captain Jack Harkness planted a Chula ambulance in 1941 London, which contain the Chula Nanogenes. Which had never encountered humans before, they infected a dying boy named Jamie. Assuming the gas mask he was wearing was part of his body they "healed" him, accidently creating The Empty Child a "Zombie" based of Jamie's characteristics and injuries on death. Jamie the 'Empty Child' has his iconic line "Are you my mummy" in which he says as he follows you round.
