Parrotpaw arched her back, readying herself to try to pounce, but she stopped.

"Wait, who's gonna pounce for it? We can't all try to get them at once!" She whispered through her teeth.

"there they are!" Sunpaw hissed, flicking his tail to the squirrels.

"Yellowpollen, anything wrong?" Parrotpaw asked. Then she smelled it too.

"Quick, into the bushes! They're coming!" Yellowpollen whispered.

They rushed into the bushes. Parrotpaw was poked mercilessly by twigs, but she didn't say a word.

"Wow," Sunpaw said. "That was my tenth peice of prey. And your first!"

Jaysong padded up to the apprentices with a smile. "I'll teach you to stalk."

Jaysong taught Parrotpaw some basic stalking, until Yellowpollen smelled younger squirrels.

The forest was breathtaking.

Even in the fall, the trees looked like battle scars in the pearly sky. She paused for a moment and listened to the birds singing that she had listened to for so long from afar.

She continued walking, still gazing at the sky veiled by white clouds, when she saw a squirrel bouncing across the branches. Yellowpollen had noticed it too.

One thing Parrotpaw was good at was climbing.

She sped up the tree, nipping at the squirrel's tail. It's frightened face lost control and fell to the ground, in front of Sunpaw. He quickly sunk his claws into the squirrel by instinct.

Parrotpaw leaped down clumsily. "I smell milk on this one. There must be younger ones nearby."

"yes. But the Clan needs to eat, and you need to train," Yellowpollen responded. "Now we must go.

The patrol walked into the forest.

Parrotpaw walked over to Yellowpollen, her breath catching in her throat.

"Hello again," She meowed to Sunpaw, the morning wind catching in her throat. She then turned to Yellowpollen. "Isn't it difficult to find prey in Leaf-bare?" She asked.

(Finally decided to add "Parrotpaw" to my personal dictionary XD)

Jaysong padded up to where the deputy was assigning patrols.

"Jaysong, Parrotpaw, Sunpaw, and me will go on hunting patrol," Yellowpollen (the deputy) meowed.

The crowd of cats listening broke apart as Yellowpollen padded to the camp entrance to wait for his cats. Jaysong followed him.

Parrotpaw looked at Jaysong akwardly, bent over her trout. "Uh, sure." she said, wolfing down the rest and walking over to her mentor.
