- Esme hears this and rolls her eyes
- Esme: “Next!”
- The cheque arrives. It’s 2050 dollars for 1 person
- Charles gasps
- Charles: “Esme, is it this much for just the both of us?”
- Esme: “Relax, charlie. I’m a regular here! I practically eat all my meals here.”
- Charles seems quite shocked
- Charles: “Esme, do you spend this much money for dinner and lunch every night?!”
- Esme laughs, somewhat intoxicated
- Esme: “Of course, darling! Though sometimes it may be 1 thousand 5 hundred.”
- Esme pays the check and she, jenny, and Charles leave the restaurant.
- Esme: “It’s a fish course! This month it’s wild red mullet!”
- Charles: “I’m sorry, Esme, is it wild? Why isn’t it farmed? It seems unsustainable”
- Esme laughs at Charles, thinking he’s joking.
- Esme: “Oh, come on, darling, who cares about sustainability?”
- Charles seems disturbed, as one of his top priorities for his family’s hotel company is sustainability
- Charles: “I do-“
- The next course arrives.
- Esme: “It’s the lamb saddle!”
- Esme starts slicing it whilst Charles looks
- Esme: “Well, darling, what are you looking at?!”
- Esme giggles excitedly
- Esme: “Ooh! The smoked egg, a classic!”
- Charles seems to gag at the idea of smoked food but doesn’t dare excuse himself from the room
- Esme: “The tomato course, one of my favourites!”
- She devours it easily while Charles tries to swallow it
- Esme devours it slowly, with ease
- Charles has difficulty consuming it, but tries to do so
- Charles: “That’s a small portion.”
- Esme giggles
- Esme: “Darling, those are the pre-meal starters! You can eat them in one bite.”
