According to my friend's lore of Minecraft, there was once a primordial race called the Deeplings, or Atlanteans/Merlings. They lived in the oceans and were creatures with fish-like features. They were the ones who built ocean monuments and created the guardians to protect them. They also invented tridents and the conduit. Eventually, after the wars, many became what we know as Drowned.

On Rovecraft SMP, my friend Broniest discovered a secret temple within an ocean monument which contained an origin orb with their powers.
He can breathe underwater and swim incredibly fast. But he can't stay on land or in warm conditions for too long, otherwise he'll burn up.
