CHEEZITS sorry its quite a bit long and rather rushed at the end
It swirled around her, a whirlwind of rainwater. The rain wasn't natural. The guards snapped out of their daze and quickly restrained Allie, shouting orders at one another. Allie couldn't hear them - all she could hear was the rush of water and her heartbeat pounding in her ears.
She was taken to the king. Upon hearing the news, he imprisoned her in a frenzied state. She was trapped. She bargained, begged, did everything she could to convince the king to let her go, but he resisted. Little did she know, magic wasn't unknown. Outside the little kingdom, gods and goddesses ruled the lands.
And she was the rain goddess.
However, she never learned this information. The king sucked all and any power from her in fear of what she would do. She was exiled, silenced, and nobody will ever know.
When she saw the source of her confusion, a wave of panic flowed over her. She stopped handing her book to the clerk, who followed her gaze. Three royal guards stood at the entrance to the library. One of them had a box of matches clutched in his gloved hand. The bookshelves were quickly engulfed in flame. It sweeped across the old building in a dangerous dance, making its way quickly to Allie.
This is when it all went off-script.
As if someone pulled a lever, harsh rain began to pour. The weak wooden roof couldn't take the battering, and began to creak and groan. Rotting planks fell from the ceiling, and the rain pushed its way in, flowing in an unnatural pattern. Allie and the guards watched in pure shock as her hands began to shake, and the rain began to move with her.
Books were the world Abbie didn't have. They were an escape; a whimsical place full of wonder, creativity and imagination.
So you can imagine her dismay when the winds got harsher, the cold got stronger, and the king got worse. His seemingly unprompted paranoia had been growing - it had been a rumor ever since Allie was born that he was slowly going mad.
So he banned books.
He was scared they would influence the people's imagination, make them realize the unfair lives they were living, make them rebel.
Allie was in the town library, which was an old, musty building, where the rusty squealing of the door is the substitute for a bell. But it held her books, and therefore her world. She was sliding her new pick over the counter when she noticed something. She paused, looking around warily.
Ever since she was a child, Abbie, short for Abigail, had an unnatural hair color. Growing up in a small kingdom surrounded by high mountains on every side, nobody really understood how her hair had come to be the blue-purple color it is. She was viewed as an outsider. She grew up believing she was an outcast, convinced that ever since birth she was destined to be a side character, someone in the background. She had always felt a strong connection with rain. Instead of people, she books to immerse herself in worlds where kings and queens were beautiful and just, where there were fantastical beasts and rolling fields of green grass and tall, sprawling castles with intricate detail- everything her world was not. She loved these stories, cherished them with all her heart.
Don't comment until I say Cheezits <3
