Bones - Part 15

Raxem was received by the soft tendrils, but she was falling too fast. The delicate vines snapped from the sudden tension, loose ends whipping against her small form, tearing at her cloak, and lashing her skin. She heard the panic of swallows fleeing from the tumultuous sound of her figure plunging through the foliage, destroying their homes. As Raxem broke through the last of the vines, a few hanging tendrils wrapped tightly around one of her legs, and when she reached the end of their length, they came taut and wrenched her leg into an unnatural position, before snapping and trailing the plummeting body towards the shore.

The high shoreline was now upon her. As a last effort to preserve her own life, Raxem sent out a final call to magic in an attempt to cushion her landing. When she came within range of the ground, the magic connected at last, and a dome-shaped purple shield materialized just before shattering again as Raxem finally crashed into the packed sand.
