Bones - Part 12

Raxem sits at her table, sipping a fresh bowl of argo-root soup. Suddenly the door slams open, and Raxem jumps alerted to her feet. Kira, who she hasn’t seen in a year, stands in the doorway.

Raxem shares a bowl of soup with Kira, who rapidly explains that she has to get back to the pole, that the world is dying, that Raxem should come with her.

But she declines the offer again, sending Kira off with directions for the crossing of the sea.

But in the following days, she notices that Kira was right. When she reaches out to her connection to the core, she can feel it weakening. And the crystals in the caves no longer glow as bright as before. She will follow Kira to the pole, and she will do anything to protect the core.

When Raxem reaches the pole, she is received by the general Kalani. She learns that Aerin and Kira have left for the capitol of the Sunstone Empire.

Raxem knows more about core magic than anyone else in the world, and she informs Celessa, Queen of the Spires, that she may be able to help save the core from utter collapse.

And the first of the sky-quakes hits.
