Hope? No Hope.

“Swim!” Dovefeather screamed. Brackenfoot was leaping across the log and splashing water at the flames blocking the others from crossing, in hopes of beating the lightning. Riverclan and Skyclan cats swam fast enough that it would hopefully be enough, and suddenly Dovefeather could hear something in the bushes behind her. Spinning around, claws unsheathed, Dovefeather saw, in confusion, two cats glancing at the lake in horror and befuddlement. The apprentice glanced up at the taller one, his eyes burning like yellow fire, then charged to the log. The other cat looked up in the sky in fear and hope, then at Sunblaze, who was unconscious.
Finally the swimming cats began heaving onto the shore, and the cats on the log began charging toward the shore.
Dovefeather could tell something was wrong. Time seemed frozen as Berryfur slipped, then plummeted toward the water as lightning flashed the sky. Almost blinded, Dovefeather screeched her friend’s name and leapt an impossible distance across the water, crashing into Berryfur as the lightning hit the water, and both cats fell in.
