Echopaw swam faster than he ever had, sticking his tongue out between his teeth in concentration. Thunder rolled ahead, and Echopaw heard Brackenfoot gasping for breath. Sunblaze was ahead plenty, and suddenly he froze. Echopaw squeaked and padded furiously, seeing Sunblaze sinking, seeming in a world of his own, eyes wide in disbelief. “Echopaw!” Brackenfoot screeched, legs tiring her out as her head starting lowering to the water. Caught in a midst of panic, Echopaw watched as the mysterious tortoiseshell from the gathering lunged into the water and drag Sunblaze onto the shore. Echopaw immediately dove into the water, grabbing Brackenfoot by the scruff of her neck and pulling. Echopaw was filled with horror as he only sank lower. Lightning flashed in the clouds, and two black cats, one with blue eyes and one with white stripes, appeared in the water and smashed into Echopaw and Brackenfoot, sending them into a boulder, and lightning hit the water...
