PUG FUN FACTS:
- The Pug is one of the oldest dog breeds, originating in china since around 400 BC
- Their name probably comes from their facial expression (after pug monkeys who have similar facial expressions)
- They are not related to Bulldogs even though they are sometimes called “Dutch Bulldogs”
- The Pug has many different names, such as Lo-sze (China), Doguillo (Spain), Chinese or Dutch Pug (England), Mops (German), Mopsi (Finland), and Mopshond (Holland).
- Being a brachycephalic dog breed, they can’t tolerate hot weather or much exercise because the shape if their face makes breathing harder.
- Pugs have a short and smooth coat which requires minimal maintenance.
