He was floating.
It was.... peaceful. Tranquil. He didn't want to open his eyes. Drifting softly through a dark world, a faint bluish light grew stronger and stronger until it was almost uncomfortable....
He squinted, blinking his eyes open and shielding them from the strong glow.
"W-where am I?" He looked down at his hands in confusion. They were too.... pale, almost translucent? No, this wasn't right, it wasn't right at all.
"What's happening to me?"
Suddenly, it all flooded back to him. A terrible sickness, Father and Mother and his sister Anne's worried voices. He remembered a fever, and suddenly not being able to walk or move.
"I...."
"I'm dead, aren't I?"
"Yes," Came a gentle voice, deep and soothing like the night. A tall, beautiful woman in a black cloak and an ornate skull-shaped mask emerged from the shadows, placing a hand on his shoulder. The other one, he noticed, held a scythe.
"I'm so sorry. It's obvious you weren't quite done in this world.... but as a ghost, you'll have a second chance, or as much of one as I can provide." She smiled faintly. "Goodbye, Sky."
