...Initial Infiltration Units were initially crude affairs, using Standard Combat Units with modified emission and cooling systems, covered in, from a distance, looked like human skin but was in actuality a mass-produced polymer layer. Unfortunately, either through sabotage or a lack of quality control, these units' heat exhaust vents, which were located at the back of said infiltration units, would literally melt away the polymer covering, leaving very obvious tell-tale lacunae which would give the infiltration units away.
