Felipe picked the crystal up, and held it up to the moonlight streaming in through the skylight dome of the ceiling. Suddenly, it slipped from his grasp and caught his finger, cutting the tip. He gasped and leaned against the pedestal. When the sudden burst of pain cleared, he realized the room had gone silent.
He stopped at the base of the pedestal and crouched down. The shard was about as big as his thumbnail, a single piece of crystal glass against the black marble floor.
'Although,' she added, 'Perhaps she was never really there anyways.'
He started to turn towards her again, but stopped when something on the floor caught his eye. Illuminated by the moonlight only when he tilted his head a certain way, was one single shard of crystal, polished to a clear perfection. He turned, mesmerized, and started to walk towards it, through the crowds of conversing people.
'Told you,' the girl with the bouncy blue curls said. 'But you knew too, even if it doesnt make sense.'
Felipe narrowed his eyes and took another sip of his drink.
In fact, there didnt appear to be anything there. Whilst people nearest to the marble pedestal had jumped back so to avoid the shards of glass, there didnt seem to be any at all. The murmurs grew louder, people speculating on where the statute might have gone, what the shattering noise mightve been, why the music hadnt started up again.
