The meal consisted of lamb, bread, salad, and cherry pie. The girls ate as though they had been starved. The truth was, they were fed very little and only when a newcomer came were they fed like this. After dinner, they were all sent to bed. Beth laid awake for an hour, waiting for someone to come in and say goodnight, but no one came. Soon, she fell asleep, feeling neglected.

''Why thank you!'' Beth said, and ran downstairs. The girl led her to the dining hall and looked longingly at the food. Beth pitied her. Maybe she could give her a bite later if she could find her.
There were multiple girls at the table, waiting to eat. When Beth came to a seat, they all stared, whispering:
''There she is! The rich-girl! Look at that dress!'' They all admired her until Mrs. Jonson called for order. She said the blessings and they all started to eat.
got The Queen of the Streets. Beth handed the book to her doll carefully, telling her that it was a very special book. The doll just stared into space, and suddenly Beth awoke from her imagination. She had to finish un packing! Running to her bag, she pulled out her clothes and put them away. Then a knock came on her door. Beth ran to open it, and found a young servant standing in front of her. She had to have been at last one year older that Beth.
''Dinner is ready,'' she said.
and stuck them in her bookshelf, sorting them in alphabetical order. Suddenly, an idea sprang to Beth's head. She pretended to be a librarian. She pretended to set up for her store to open; arranging books and decoration. then she 'opened' the store. The first costumer was her porcelain doll. She requested a book about a lost cat, and left. Then a family came in and each got separate books. The little boy got a war book, the mom a cooking book, the dad a construction book, and the little girl...
''Then I'll leave you to un-pack,''Mrs. Jonson declared,''Come down for dinner at six.'' She left the room and Beth ran to her bag. Digging to the bottom, she pulled out her note pad and her picture. Finding an empty nail on the wall, she hung it there, and rested the note pad on her table next to a vase. Then she pulled out her plastic flowers and stuck them in the vase. Next she pulled out her various toys and put them in fitting places. After she had finished, she pulled out all her books...
