Hair Shading Tutorial

This is how I personally shade hair. You may not want to shade like me, but this tutorial can help with getting started at hair shading. Quite a lot of shading styles come down to this concept.

1) Colour the area you want hair to be in the darkest colour you want for the hair.

2) Add the main colour for the hair in the way (or a similar way) shown on the skin. I normally use the darkest colour lightened by one (using the lighten tool), but depending on how much of a contrast you want, you may make it lighter or darker.

3) Add a bit of a blend between the lines of the main colour and the darkest colour. It's best if you use a shade between the darkest and main colours for the best blend.

4) Finally, add the light lines. I normally use the blending colour lightened by one, but it can be any colour lighter than the main colour.

(In this example, the colours have also been hue-shifted from purple to pink.)
