Great! Bear said. A rope and a sturdy pole. Wait, we're not going to climb down on the rope, are we? Jack asked. Of course! Bear said. Suddenly Jack felt like the world had suddenly stopped, and it was never going to move again.

Bear lead them through the store to a door labeled FIRE EXIT. Bear opened the door revealing a staircase. Come on, Bear said. They walked up the long staircase and when they stepped out, they found themselves on the roof of the building. Jack looked over the edge, it was a long way down and the building looked as if the earthquake had choked it, ready to fall.

Is there another aftershock? Jack asked. Yes, Bear said. Then they heard a large CRASH! What was that? Jack asked. I think the store entrance just collapsed, Bear replied. Is there another way out? Jack asked. Well, there's one we could use, he replied.

Look for things like energy bars, anything that will give us lots of energy, Bear said. Alright, Jack said. But then the shaking started again. Get down! Bear shouted. So Jack got down right away.

Jack thought to himself, An earthquake, no wonder everyone left! Just then the shaking stopped. Alright, now that the aftershock's over, lets go to that store over there and get some supplies, the man said. And by the way, the names Bear, he said. Alright, lets go, Jack said.

Why am I bent over like this, and what happened to this place? Jack asked. Yesterday there was a large earthquake that made everyone leave the city, and now there are aftershocks a lot and the reason your bent over is to protect yourself. the man answered

Suddenly Jack heard a voice as a figure stepped into the little light there was.Get down! it yelled. Without realizing Jack got down like the figure said. The figure ran over to Jack. Now in the light, Jack could see the figure was a tall thin man with a large backpack.

He still hadn't gone to sleep so he opened his eyes and sat up. But he wasn't in his bed, he was in a city, but this one was weird. There was shattered glass, broken buildings. And then the ground started shaking.
