he is a koopa but he is also the son of bowser and his brother is a parakoopa named well parakoopa they were kicked out of their homes and were separated as kids and never seen each other in 5 years and they were separated when troopa was 10 and parakoopa was 8 but now their adopted by Luigi and baby max and their uncle Mario!
