It more than sucks, I want to argue. I want to tell her that Meadow was more than just a guardian. She's my friend, and I miss her already.

''Mhm...'' I punch one of the fluffy pillows before sitting on the bed with a sigh. ''I kinda wanna sleep...''

''No problem!'' my roommate stands and reaches for some fabric I didn't notice before, tugging on it until it shifts and moves on a pole running parallel to the ceiling. Soon, the room is cut in half by a gray curtain.
''Oh. convenient.'' I mumble flatly, pushing the blankets off my bed and changing into an old tee-shirt and shorts before sliding onto the bed--my body sinks into the mattress, it's so deep--and pulling the covers back up.

''Goodnight!'' Yoko shouts from her side of the room.

''G'night.'' I murmur back, and with that-

I'm asleep.
She leaps from her bed and twirls, arms outstretched as she giggles again.

''My room at home was tiny...like, a little apartment...boy, was I glad to leave.'' Yoko flops back onto her bed, eyes darkening suddenly.

''Oh...'' I'd press if I wasn't already tired and if the look in her face wasn't quite so...haunted, I guess. ''I was okay with leaving, I guess...but I had to leave my aunt...''

''Oof.'' she makes a face. ''That sucks.''

Along with a bed, each side contains a polished wooden desk and matching dresser. There's an elaborate chair made of strands weaving a place to sit within a frame on Yoko's side and a beanbag being supported by legs on mine.

''This is...our dorm?'' I murmur, running a shocked hand over the covers of my bed. It's so much softer than the old one I'm used to, yet...colder. Less safe or familiar.

''Mhm!'' Yoko's eyes sparkle. ''There's so much space!''

Hoping against hope that she's not doing anything insane, I let my hand close around the golden doorknob and twist it, pushing my way inside.

''Oh my word...''

The room is open and comfortable, with a twin bed on either side. Its walls are painted light gray, and the symbols from before are painted--in the same obnoxious pink for mine--practically glow, one above each bed.

Yoko is perched on the wall of the right, grinning.

My feet stop moving almost of their own accord as I stare my door down, eyes locked on the bright pink design that's painted on the left of the sign and looks exactly like the mark on my wrist.

I don't even like pink.

To the right of the sign is a symbol that looks like it could've come from the Eastern Lands, intricate and silver. It's delicate and somehow snarky and basically screams Yoko.

Though, so does the giggling coming from inside, so...

follow, messenger bag suddenly heavy against me. The voices begin to hush, and footsteps are duller as they thud against the dark carpets.

Finally, I reach the top.

A hallway stretches out to my left, lined on both sides with mahogany doors, each with a beautifully hand-lettered sign on it. I start on my way, reading the signs as I go.

+-Poppi and Kayla-+

+-Mei and Kira-+

+-Cressi and Atana-+

+-Yoko and Lark-+
