She saw her mother crying.

'Come on guys, it's time to go. If you sleep for even five minutes longer, we'll be late.' Connor and Avery were sluggish, but got up and ready. They started walking to school the second they were ready to. They all felt unsafe around both parents. As usual, school was boring. Once Lise got home with her siblings, she was shocked to see something she thought she'd never see.

She hurried out of the room to avoid having her mother's burning rage directed on her for being late for school. Last time didn't turn out well. Her mom stared tenderly at Lise, but she knew it was an act to cover up the argument. 'Here's your breakfast, but first, can you go wake up Connor and Avery?' Lise said nothing, and trudged to her younger sibling's rooms. Avery was barely turning 8, and was already out of her princess phase. Connor was 10, and would be for a while. She opened the door.

Lise woke up in a cold sweat. 'Again?' she thought. This was the sixth time this dream had happened recently. She decided to put off telling her mother. As she got up and got dressed, she could already hear her mom arguing with her dad over the phone on who's turn it was with the kids. She didn't think they cared about Lise and her siblings since the divorce. Just being a better parent and proving the other wrong.
