Phoenix thought for a moment. 'Must be hard for you.'

'It sure is.'

'Get some sleep. You'll need it for tomorrow.'

I tilted my head. 'Why?'

Grinning, Phoenix replied, 'Oh, you'll see.'

'she ran away, because of an argument she had with her parents. The police searched for her for months, but they found nothing. Finally, they came up with the conclusion that Nichole was dead. But I know that's not true. I just have this feeling...she's alive. After that, everyone acted like she never even existed. And I need to find her.'

I suppressed a groan. The last thing I wanted right now was to tell someone who I've only known for about five minutes all of my problems, but I had a feeling she wouldn't stop bugging me until I did, so I gave in. 'Three years ago, a girl in my neighborhood, Nichole, went missing. Her parents acted like she was kidnapped, but I knew the truth, I saw it all.' I paused, glancing at Phoenix to make sure she was actually listening-

Phoenix just grinned even more. 'Why do I get the feeling that you don't want to be here?'

'Maybe because I don't.' I mumbled.

'Don't worry,' she replied, 'It'll get better.'

I sighed, tucking a strand of my dark brown hair behind my ear. This girl didn't understand. I couldn't be here. 'I doubt that will happen.I have something to do back home, and there nothing I can do about it here.'

'What's the problem?' Phoenix asked.

'It's kind of hard to explain.'

'Just give it a shot.'
