Its helmet, the pickelhaube was designed in 1842 by King Frederick William IV of Prussia and its use was slowly spreading to other German states. In 1887, the kingdom of Bavaria was the last German state to adopt it. During the end of the 19th century, the armies of many nations adopted this type of helmet. Among them the United Kingdom, Russia, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Sweden, Portugal, Brazil, Norway, El Salvador, the United States, Spain, Venezuela and -for a brief period- Peru
