The griffin is a lion-eagle hybrid which originated in central Asia as well as Egypt. It is believed that its myth originated from fossils of triceratops, or relatives to this dinosaur. Because the prehistoric animal had a beak as well as four legs, it was assumed that it had the head of a bird and the body of a lion. The griffin is considered to be a protector of evil and witchcraft, and a guardian of sacred treasures and temples.
