It depends on the canon. Like maybe mania doesn't need a host in some canons but idk. I remember hearing that but idk. Either way sleeper doesn't but he's actually kinda powerful

In the comics carnage does need a host, I recently bought the deadpool vs carnage book and carnage does need a host to survive
