Community Interview: The importance of the Skindex community!

Welcome back to InterviewingSkindex, where we shall discuss - together - the importance of the Skindex community!

Over the years, Skindex has had its bumpy road of toxicity within the community; then there's been that dimly lit lap in the corner of the room that nobody seems to have noticed, which is the wonderful part of this site! I want you, the readers, to share and express your opinions on the community, and of its pros and cons. What do you think we - as a community - could do better, to ensure everyone feels safe and welcome? I would love to hear from you all!

skindex has LOTS of bad things- but also many good things too :D
something i see has been mentioned s few times id that bigger skinners have ignored some smaller skinners
i dont think that ever really happened to me and im happy abt that but there have been lots of other really talented skinners that have been ignored by big creators bc of their follower count which sucks
I think that the best thing we could do is to welcome new skinners and help them get more publicity so that they're not stuck posting unappreciated skins for half a year until they get fully noticed.
As a whole, I think the skindex community is definitely not the best, but not the worst either. There is certainly a large amount of toxicity, mostly between bigger and smaller users fighting for various reasons
(sometimes it's the fault of the smaller user). Aside from that, the only thing I can really say is all the meme and item skins that get on the front page (I feel like they speak for themselves.)
OMG SKINDEXHAPPINESS I USED TO FOLLOW THEM
But I didn't know what happened to them until now ty <3
Well there were others too, along with somebodyโ€™s attempt to make a account called.. skindex police or smth? O_O
I think skindex police got banned lol
Pros: Fairly easy website to understand n grow on.

Cons: Dislike bombing and stealing- tho as long as reports r put in stolen skins get taken down in a reasonable amount of time for the most part- I saw some people saying the moderation wasn't that great- but I originated on Skinseed, so ANY moderation is good moderation to me.

Also side note: yeh i agree with some of the people in the comments who were saying it's not that toxic, bc it really isn't. Imo, if you don't want toxicity don't talk to toxic people. People are toxic. Not sites as a whole.
I definitely agree, when I was active about 3 years ago there used to be a huge discord run by a user named GamerRosalina called "SkinnerTopia" (I don't know what happened to her unfortunately, but at one point she came back and I think she left skindex a second time? she could still be here under a new user xD) there were many small and in-between follow count users on there-

unfortunately the discord server got incredibly toxic and around when I joined a few people with larger follow counts were harassing smaller skinners, including some of the people I met on there that were really nice people. it really was a shame what happened to it because it used to be such a wonderful server.

i could be so out of the loop that the server could still exist or the people from it-
Indeed, SkinnerTopia does still exist! Iโ€™m currently its owner, although I admit itโ€™s only up as to preserve the past chats rather than to attempt to revive the server in any way.
and please, stop assuming you know the full story.
even if they are "fan accounts" or just have a similar name, the fact that they are presenting themselves similar to another, even unintentionally, is inherently impersonation. of course, there is a gray area, but when inspiration becomes a copy, you can't negate the fact that a person aspires be another.

as a creative community, we thrive off the thoughts of original and unique works. as a genre, skins become boring when it is consistently one-dimensional and always the same. lets apply this with people too!

i don't think people realize the fact that as we grow larger and larger in popularity, the more we are expected to accommodate and influence the skindex community. as a result, we (more influential creators) turn into a commodity. and people love commodities and generally lean towards them! but there is a fine line between appreciating our work and becoming obsessive. we are a person behind a screen. we are human.
also i don't know who in the right mind would agree with the idea that having a similar name =/ impersonation. believing this is absurd and ignorant of the harsh reality. (provided its a generally unique name/larger creator) also, even if the account did nothing, the attention given is misdirected and overall can harm the credibility of our platform WHEN something is done.
honestly just helping any skinner among this website is genuinely the best thing to do
opinions can differ but as long as it stays respectful and isn't an outright threat is better. (can think of one time that I was basically attacked because I commented something that didn't agree with the rest of the population, but it wasn't even aggressive or disrespectful?)

just being nice to people is just better, you can make many friends on this site too, it's a great way to share interests ^^ the smaller skinners really just have to band together on this site, if I have a large follow count someday I still would look out for smaller creators-
