"Species name: Pyrotherium hirsutops?
Description:
Yet another entity that defies sensibility in this burning landscape, the 'Striders' as they are known by explorers are thermophilic animals that spend almost their entire lives wading through the lava lakes that wind through their homeland. The only time they ever leave their lakes is when crossing to another adjacent one."
"The are able to endure such extreme heat thanks to a protective layer of minerals around their legs and underside, and a dense coating of insulating hair across their body. Despite observing many of them on my journey, I am yet to ascertain what they rely on for sustenance. Their mouths are extremely wide and their eye position gives them a nearly 180 field of vision, suggesting a possibly predatory lifestyle, but I have not witnessed what exactly they may be hunting. The long hairs on their backs may also be sensory organs for this purpose."
"They are extremely vocal and social creatures, emitting all manor of squeaking, crackling noises from well developed vocal cords. Young individuals can often be seen jumping on their parent's backs, sometimes with several individuals stacked at a time."
