Sky Pony Press- The Unofficial Gamer's Adventure Series: Six Thrilling Stories For Minecrafters, by Winter Morgan.
I have the whole series, they're really awesome, be sure to check them out!
Max is a skilled fighter, and is part of a trio of treasure hunters who become friends with Steve and help him on his adventures.
The books really don't explain what the characters look like(other than their armor)so I'm just using my imagination.
