*I'll see ya when school starts, Hisao!* Jiro exclaimed as Hisao was getting out. Hisao only waved. *Maybe school will be fun?* He thought as he slipped into his house, and watched them drive away.

-END CHAPTER1-
Jiro's mother had been the furst woman who asked about his family. *Where is your mom?* Jiro asked. He told him the same things he had told big desk lady, and Jiro's mother. *Oh.* He said, looking down. *Hey! I got an idea* He said. *We can take youto your home, cause otherwise you're gonna be stuck here, and that's no fun.* Hisao was shocked by Jiro's kindness. He smiled, *Yea!* Jiro's mother agreed, and the three of them rode in the car.
He handed the papers back to the big desk lady, and she stared. *Where are your parents?* She asked. He HP told her the same thing he had told the other woman. She just shook her head, and handed him a slip. *This is your locker number and lunch number.* She said pointing. Hisao walked out of the office, and ran into another boy about his age. *Hi!* The boy said. He worea green shirt, and brown tennis shoes. *My name's Jiro. My mom is in there right now.* He said.
As he neared the office, a lady came to him and said, *Where are your parents, little one?* She looked around. *My sister dropped me off. My uncle is out somewhere, and my parents are dead.* He was a barely phased by the question. He was used to explaining his current family issues. *Oh my.* The lady said. By this time, Hisao was next in line. A lady at a big deal handed him a piece of paper. On it, he wrote his name, birthday, and every blank he knew how to answer.
Turning to face his school, he noticed a couple other kids walking with their parents. *I wish I had parents to walk me on my first day.* He thought as he entered the building. The lobby wasn't that impressive. The lights were bright, the floor was stained brown from dirt and mud. He walked to the office, mostly because everyone else was waiting there. *Wait,* He thought. *How am I going to get home?* His face now worried.
*We need to get you registered for school too.* She said hopping in the driver's seat. *If I drop you off at the school, can you do the papers by yourself?* His sister asked as she buckled her seat belt. Hisao nodded, and together they drove in silence, soon arriving at the elementary school. Before he got out, Aiko planted another kiss on his head. *Stay safe, and don't forget me!* Were the last words he heard from her before she drove off. He waved to her, and she waved back.
Learning how to paint a car proved to be the most fun part of the day. Aiko showed him how to dip the roller in the paint so it covered evenly, and she showed him how to clean up messes with the cloth. While Aiko was working in the front, Hisao had a lot of fun painting. The sun rose high, and he could tell it was about noon when he finished. Miraculously, the truck started. Aiko was sixteen. She had just gotten her license last year, and Hisao was nervous riding with her.
*Now, do you want to help me on the truck?* Hisao didn't really answer other than a sniffle and nod. As they walked out to the shed, the place where their uncle kept junk, he looked to the truck. The truck was an old piece of junk, and he doubted whetherit would start. In the shed, Aiko found gray paint. *You carry this.* She directed. He dragged the heavy paint can over to the truck. She then handed him a brush, a roller, and a washcloth.
These thoughts raced through his mind. *Why?!* He said, tears pouring down. *Ypu can't leave me alone withUncle Okin!* He said. Aiko hugged him tightly. He heard her whisper, *Don't cry.* Then she said, *I will come back. Soon, very soon.*
Hisao could barely believe his sister was actually planning on leaving. His whole life, she was the one who provided for him. His uncle was lazy. Claiming to go to work, when really he was out either gambling or drinking.
