She had set her pillow at the foot of her bed. She rearranged a bit, and slapped her head down onto the cushion. Was this going to be a bad year? *No... I wont let it.* she said quietly to herself, and then she closed her eyes, sleep overcoming her.

-END CHAPTER 2-
*Listen to yourself.* she thought. *Petty problems. Your sister has always had a hard time making friends. She needs this.* these thoughts made her feel a bit better. Of course, she still felt a bit like the black sheep in the group. She came out, ready to sleep. She was tired from the long day of packing, then unpacking. She slumped over on her bed. It was soft, just like the one she had at home.
She barely heard Ren thank her. As she finished the tea, she glanced to her sister who was almost asleep. She decided she would get ready for bed. She grabbed her items, and headed in. She sighed, *How am I going to survive the entire school year?* she thought. In her mind, she imagined a perky roommate. One that she could get along with. While Ren was perfect for Harumi, Hoshi felt really alone now.
She was then handed a brown paper sack, and a cup. *Thank you.* both her and the cashier said. She ate her sandwich quickly as she headed up the stairs. In the hallway, she could see a group of girls coming out of their room. One was wearing a bright red sweatshirt. *I wonder who they are.* Hoshi thought, entering her own dorm. She walked over to Ren, and pulled out the muffin. *Here ya go, hon.* she said as Ren took the muffin and started nibbling.
*Ok, Im going to the cafe in the lobby. Does anyone want something?* she already started out the door when she heard Ren say, *A poppy seed muffin please.* Hoshi nodded, then closed the door behind her. She walked her way to the stairs, then hopped down them. In the lobby, there was a small cafe. Hoshi had seen it when they first arrived. *Iced tea, a ham sandwich, and a poppy seed muffin please.* she ordered, giving the cashier a twenty dollar bill.
Ren looked up, and shook her head. Harumi was still pale and blank. *Ok.... Thats a no, then.* she said, putting her phone down. She then hummed a tune from one of her favorite songs. The sun quickly faded into sunset: the moon started taking its place in the sky. *Is anyone hungry?* Hoshi asked. *Ill but supper?* she reached down to grab her wallet, even when out of the corner of her eye she could see Ren shake her head.
She yanked the curtains aside letting sunlight explode into the room. The room was now bright and cheery. *Wow!* she gasped. The view wasnt that grand, but she still tried to make it a big deal. It was the schools parking lot. At least the bright autumn leaves colored the mostly dank setting. *Its so quiet in here!* Hoshi quickly said. The silence had secretly been killing her. She grasped her phone, *How about music?* she asked.
*My name is Ren. Pleasure to meet you both.* she said acknowledging both Hoshi and Harumi with a nod. *And Im Hoshi!* she yelled. She had felt slightly awkward knowing she hadnt formally said her name.*It feels so nice to finally be out of the house! Parents, am I right?* she started, hoping to spark a conversation. Ren gave a slight nod, and went back to unpacking. *Tough crowd.* Hoshi thought, putting her bags near the bed closest to the window.
Harumi started toward the middle bed, and Hoshi followed closely behind. *Thats no way to treat our new friend.* Hoshi whispered into her sisters ear. Harumi turned to face Ren. *Hi. As my sister said, I am Harumi.* she finally introduced. For the first time since they had arrived, Ren finally said something more than just her name. Her voice was soft, gentle, but at the same time melodious. It was like a chorus of angels.
As Harumi stood near the door with the bags Hoshi jumped up. *Oh!* she exclaimed. *How rude of me! This is my sister, Harumi.* she said, spreading her arms towards Harumi. Harumis face was slightly pale and blank. A look meaning she was nervous or embarrassed. Harumi gave a small wave, and a nod. *Whats she doing? Say hi or something!* Hoshi wanted to yell at her sister. She thought again about why Harumi couldnt be more like herself.
